Kyaira Mitchell (She/They) is a fiber artist from Havertown, PA. Their current practice focuses on synthetic dyes and silkscreening. Extensive sampling in dye and silk screening techniques led them to size up their work, increasing the volume to match the scale of public space. Provoked by the adage “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”, Kyaira prints aggressive and hostile phrases on large pieces of cotton and rayon yardage. These cloths capture slurs and hate speech, as well as internal monologues.
